There has been much speculation going on around whether or not Season 3 contestantand fan favorite of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Carmen Carrera, was transitioning or not. Carmen was a flawless and undeniably pretty and “fishy” drag queen that had body for days and didn’t mind showing it off, during her season. Now, after some investigation and the discovery of affirming evidence, I think it’s safe to safe that Carmen is a transgendered woman.

The first thing that struck me as odd was the photo below. I know drag queens have many tricks to make themselves appear to have breasts, but Carmen’s were just a little too real. Also, she posted a video to her Facebook and her voice appeared higher than usual. Then, after having a conversation with her on Twitter, I grew more suspicious.

Carmen obviously wasn’t trying to keep this a secret. She does post many pics of her and her husband together with her dressed as a woman. I think that was the main thing that struck me as peculiar. I know she has a persona to keep up on social networks, as does other drag queens from the show, but to be constantly dressed in women’s clothing with long hair was something a regular drag queen wouldn’t be likely to do.

Carmen recently posted a picture to her Facebook wall that documented her transitioning process since September of 2010. I think that means that she either began transitioning at the end or near the end of filming RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 3. Carmen has been taking hormones since then, which alter her appearance and replaces her male hormones with female hormones. The reason her voice sounded so high in that video I watched. But she hasn’t had any “scary surgeries” as of yet.

Friday night, I found out Carmen appeared on an episode of ABC’s What Would You Do, and to my surprise she portrayed a transgendered actress. The episode even made it clear that her name used to be Christopher and that she appeared as a contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race. In the episode, Carmen works as a transgendered waitress who encounters a man who remembers her as a boy. The man becomes belligerent and finds her transitioning to be “disgusting.” Few customers at the diner actually defend Carmen, which brought a smile to my face.

Carmen is a very pretty girl, and I love to see her coming into her skin and finally being completely happy. In the video she says that she never felt right as a boy, but that wasn’t apparent on Drag Race. Was there ever any indication that she wasn’t happy as a boy? I wonder how she felt during her time as a man, and what was the determining factor that made her decide to transition? What do you think?
