Yesterday, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and Keith Urban were announced as the new American Idol judges after months of searching and speculation. It became official with a few tweets made by host Ryan Seacrest along with the new judges of the show.

Mariah Carey managed to tweet this photo yesterday of a dinner the judges had the night before:

These are my thoughts: please cancel American Idol. Now, more than ever, are they making it obvious that they are trying to pull in ratings for a competition that hasn’t had a hit singer since Fantasia. Yes, I’m giving Fantasia all her props, even though many may disagree with me.

When Jennifer Lopez was announced as an American Idol judge, I automatically knew she wanted to promote some music and of course she came out with Dance Again. Mariah is coming out with new music, her most recent being Triumphant, but I don’t think she needs the promo as much as Jennifer did.

My point is, this show is no longer about finding talent or a good singer, but the commercial promotion that artists/judges/producers can receive and market to all of America. I haven’t watched since Fantasia. Name every American Idol judge (without cheating) since the show began. If you can do that, I’ll eat my words.
